OH MY GOD THIS IS EXACTLY HOW I FELT ABOUT THIS MOVIE. Well, give or take. But most of it!
I’ve only seen Frozen once so I’m no expert on picking it apart or anything and probably missed a lot of key points, but after leaving the theater I honestly did not see the big deal about it and I still don’t understand why everyone is so crazy obsessed with it. Then again people wonder why I like things too so it’s all subjective.
But anyway, I’m not going to review the movie since I haven’t seen it since it was released last year, but I just wanna point out a couple things about it I do thoroughly remember.
The pacing was horrid. The beginning was cute at first then it was rushed through ridiculously. I didn’t even have time to like the characters before Elsa’s powers became a problem and OH NO BETTER HIDE HER FROM THE WORLD happened. It felt very… expositiony almost? Forced backstory type? Something like that. Then the movie slows down after they reach adulthood and carries on a consistent, steady pace. And then after the climax? Back to rushing. It was wrapped up so fast that it felt sloppy and empty. Elsa fixed everything (even Olaf) in a snap and it was happily ever after. It was weird, especially after the emotional (super drawn out) climax.
Some characters were pointless. Especially Olaf. Just like the review said, he could have had potential (even though I think he’s creepy and annoying personally) but he didn’t appear until half-way through and my friend didn’t even register that he was meant to be a call-back from the sisters’ childhood when they made him in the (super rushed) opening sequence (and you can’t use the argument that it takes a second-watch cause that’s a poor excuse). And the trolls. Don’t get me started. The review said it accurately.
The movie isn’t bad and I did not think it was bad. I loved the music and especially the animation, but I don’t see the big deal I guess? The atmosphere and musical mood of the movie had more merit than the characters or plot, which frankly should be just as important to me and my personal tastes. It is nowhere near a movie that I personally think deserves to be “the best Disney movie” at any cost. It was just an okay movie. And I don’t get the hype.
So watch this review. As well as the followup discussion. Both I found very insightful. P.S. If anyone reblogs this with a debate for/against I probably won’t reply to it cause I don’t want to debate a movie I haven’t watched in awhile. I just wanted to vent this out.
I drew Picard and Harlin as Ambivians because… Idk I felt like it!
This was actually rather challenging to consider. Since male Ambivians do not have hair, I wondered how to actually draw Picard looking androgyne still. I originally thought of just messing with his head fur but through Ambivian eyes he would still look male without hair, so I figured in terms of transgendered Ambivians and how MtF would probably wear wigs to seem more normal. So I decided to do the same with Picard because that is the one female aspect he needed. But that’s alright, because only male Ambivians have the potential to not have antennae, so by not giving him antennae but giving him hair, it would end up being incredibly confusing to Ambivians upon first sight so I think that worked out in the end.
I also thought about whether he’d be a commoner, Royal, or a mix. I ended up going with mix because 1. He’d have the eye marking to mimic his mascara, 2. He could have unnatural colors - thus green and 3. Because I figured in that universe he’d likely have a Royal father and a commoner mother and thus likely some sorta act of an affair of mistressy-things and the mother just gave him up because of that. So orphan Picards have reason. Because I can’t see Picard being legit Royal cause he only thinks he’s rich in-canon so being half-Royal just leans to that in this universe. His physical form leans a little closer to Royal appearance than commoner but that’s not uncommon (the main TS cast are not full-Royal but they still look it as example).
And Harlin is just Harlin cause he’s adorable and stuff. Yay!
This is an animation I created in 2008 for a contest held by Bluekyokitty on YouTube. I made the animation in somewhere around a single month, a feat that I still don’t comprehend how I managed. The animation follows Blue (Bluekyokitty’s old fursona) as she is pursued by one of Santa’s reindeer for some unknown reason and runs into members of The Alfas and friends, causing a sea of havoc and randomness along the way. This was one of the first and only times I ever animated my Mystic Flytraps.
Anyway, this video ultimately ended up being removed by YouTube because of the music which saddened me on a number of levels considering this was my favorite and longest animation ever. It caused me to not really want to ever animate extended videos again because of it. But alas… let’s try our luck here instead and see how long it lasts, shall we?
"Seems like your heart stops working The minute they close the curtain And take off your mask And take off your costume And if anyone asks you’re taking a smoke break Drinking some coffee But everyone knows what you’re doing Seems like the bus moves slower Just cause you got somewhere to go So you take a few pills in Beverly Hills But if anyone asks you’ve got a prescription You got an addiction Who do you think that you’re fooling
John Doe, I just want the John I know Once you put the drinks on hold Maybe you could come back home John Doe”
I only just heard this song today and it’s similar to Monster by Eminem in that only the chorus really interests me and nothing else. I really needed to draw some vent art, but then this idea came to me and I figured if I’m gonna do something it might as well be relevant. I wanted to draw a picture to the song anyway so it all works out!
The people sitting around me in class officially call this “the demon horsey” or simply “the horsey”.
More progress. I plan on adding patchy spots to it and changing the color scheme closer to completion. Originally it was bursting out of snow but I already did a snow-themed one. I’m thinking desert instead so maybe bursting through sand? Definitely a warmer, lighter palette. I’ll just change the color temperature when I’m done cause, yeah, too late now oops. Still need to figure out the glowing element too. Any suggestions?
I will be posting mostly doodles, work-in-progress pieces, concept art, and images I don't want to upload to deviantART here. The only things I reblog here are friends' art and an occasional random thing. Otherwise it's strictly my art.
Also, don't be offended if I do not follow you back. I try not to follow blogs that constantly reblog (I prefer strictly art blogs). Sorry!
